Inexplicable

You were my song my love my symphony

And I played my music within your embrace

Your warm wet kisses soothed my need

As the skies of November encompassed our rapture

The smoke of our passion rose to meet heaven’s door

You called her name and yet I cried for you

Despite the bitter pill of knowing everything it’s true

That I will love you darling no matter what you do

And as you pulled me close that same familiar ecstasy

Oh it caught hold of me but no we just can’t be

How could you lead me into arms of crying trees

Their branches stark and gray gathered me as I ran

Into teardrops falling upon my sobbing shoulders

In all my anguish I gathered waxy autumn leaves

Amid the puddles of rain with every step I took

Shadows danced along the walls inside my mind

Replaying thoughts of torrid infidelity

Your fingertips now sicken me — no longer mine

And I will never know the kiss that soothed my need

For I can now resist the taste of your confection

The forest glade echoed anguish as you ran

Toward the billows of my departing breath

Beads of sweat gathered on your brow

As recollection tore away the heart of you

No recompense for nights you stole away

My arms within your grasp were suffering twigs

Longing to be free — please let them go

Eye-to-eye we gazed into the past

And for a moment longed to bring it back

As you knelt before my broken heart I wept

You called her name and yet I cried for you

Despite the bitter pill of knowing everything it’s true

That I will love you darling no matter what you do

And as you pulled me close that same familiar ecstasy

Oh it caught hold of me but no we just can’t be
