The Truth

Man with head in knees, feeling guilty

If all the letters that you wrote

Had somehow slipped away

And all the photographs of you

Disappeared some day

With the many memories

That I hold deep inside

The secret corners of my heart

Where I can confide

The truth of what I really feel

So deep within my soul

About a love that will not die

A love so beautiful

My darling though you’ve gone away

So far that I can’t feel

The nearness of your sacred touch

Or heartbeat as I kneel

In prayer beside my bed at night

Or go about my day

There’s something that I realize

And that I must convey

However true your path may be

Wherever you may go

Inside your heart you’ll carry me

My darling even though

You sleep beside another love

Who also shares your name

Deep inside you know it’s true

She’ll never feel the same

As me
