If We Had Said

If I had said I loved you

Before she took my place

I wouldn’t feel this inner wound

That time cannot erase

If you had said you loved me

Before you took her hand

I would be beside you

Not with another man

The words were left unspoken

It was just the thing to do

Boundaries could not be broken

Set for me and you

I sit here feeling shattered

When she’s there in your arms

As if it never mattered

That she’s smitten by the charms

That I’ll no longer feel

As I sit here feeling blue

It’s the price I have to pay

For letting go of you
