NEAR TO HIS LIPS

 John William Waterhouse

NEAR TO HIS LIPS I HUMBLY BOW

SO NOT TO WAKE FROM GENTLE SLEEP

BUT HASTE TO TAKE AS TIME ALLOWS

MY LOVE AWAITS BEFORE ME NOW

WITHIN THE WATCH THE ANGELS KEEP

NEAR TO HIS LIPS I HUMBLY BOW

I SOFTLY KISS HIS FACE AND BROW

THAT I MAY FILL THIS VOID SO DEEP

BUT HASTE TO TAKE AS TIME ALLOWS

MY LOVE REPOSES ‘NEATH THE BOUGH

WHERE THE TENDER VINES DO CREEP

NEAR TO HIS LIPS I HUMBLY BOW

AND IN THIS MOMENT I DO VOW

TO KISS HIS LIPS YET WHILE HE SLEEPS

BUT HASTE TO TAKE AS TIME ALLOWS

MY FINEST OFFERING I ENDOW

FLOWING AS I SOFTLY WEEP

NEAR TO HIS LIPS I HUMBLY BOW

BUT HASTE TO TAKE AS TIME ALLOWS

I write about the greatest force on earth that, I believe, lives on forever and surpasses all else. "All your poems read like I am watching an artist use words instead of colours full of feeling." ~Anon.
