I Cannot Comprehend

I Cannot Comprehend

Our love was as the sea

We rose up to the sky

Crashing, then receding

As constant as the tide

Standing on the edge

Thinking we could fly

The earth beneath our feet

Our prospects were too high

Each utterance you speak

I do not comprehend

I cannot discern my own

Within this whirling wind

All thought is tossed about

To reason is a waste

Yearning yet discerning

For the little things you say

This hot and raging storm

We stir and stir again

Despite our best intentions

I cannot comprehend

I stand within its eye

Where quietness abounds

Listening for your voice

But it is nowhere to be found
