Penance for Affection

Penance for affection
A fervent whispered prayer
That should avail so much
Beyond this ravaged soul
How I weep the loss
Of hope that died in me
When I let go the dream
Of drowning in your sea
The virtue of my heart
Lies beneath the feet
I once bowed to kiss
That walked away from me
