Childhood Tree

 Childhood Tree

Bubbling candles light

Each frond with golden flame

Strung with silver tinsel

Adorned with candy canes

Throughout its silhouette

Some tiny cones abide

Hiding in the darkness

With tips of snowy white

A berried string of popcorn

Is draped across each bough

Along with paper snowflakes

Cut with scissors while

I sat in expectation

For Daddy to come home

With a giant tree of magic

That I could call my own

I stand in the dark corner

So dimly lit tonight

And touch with tiny fingers

The bubbling candlelight

Mesmerized by magic

Beyond my wildest dreams

Thrilled that I have Christmas

Inside an evergreen
