Shades of Gray

Shades of Gray

Woke up late again today

And missed my train of thought

All my good intentions

Once again, were lost

Somewhere in the clouds

That hover ‘round my room

As depression settles in

With its impending doom

It tunnels in my blankets

And the pillows where I lie

Depleting me of energy

To the point that I don’t try

Or want to make an effort

To face another day

Wasted on the stranger

In the bed where I now lay

Perhaps if I return

To the arms of gentle sleep

When I awake, I will not find

That I am incomplete

But rested and restored

To face another day

Rather than revisiting

These painful shades of gray
