The anger within you
Cowers in shame
And I study your psyche
For something to blame
As I gather your feelings
So closely to mine
Surmising the notion
We’re two of a kind
And I want to unmask
This insatiable beast
Daring to claim
What may lie underneath
The layers of pain
I am chipping away
With cautious intent
Bit by bit day by day
I gaze at your fierceness
Beyond red I see blue
And a hint of compassion
Melts the ice inside you
For only an instant
Come glimmers of hope
Into these dark waters
So I can cope
With the risk I am taking
By sharing my heart
With a tormenting lover
Who tears it apart
Pushing away
Then pulling me in
Methodically choosing
To seize and to win
