I’d Fly to Where You Are

On the avenue among the crowd, I gather daisies close to me and think about your eyes of brown and just how great things used to be.  The sky is dark as rain pours down; it stings my face as do my tears.  I cry for you, I am so blue for want of all those missing years.  If I had wings, I’d fly above the hurried mass that swallows me and fly above the cloudy skies to the place I want to be. I’d place these daisies in your vase and cook a meal fit for a king.  We’d make sweet love until the dawn.  I’d make you forget everything that broke your heart and made you cry, that took your love away from me.  I’d wipe the teardrops from your eyes and hold your body close to me.  If I could only catch the wind that blows beneath the yellow dome of this umbrella that I hold, I’d fly away into the home of you, my love.  You’re in my heart, beneath this sky, within this crowd, and I would make you as my own.  Yes, I would be so very proud.
